Honoring our seniors

Meet our senors:
Top Row: Caitlin Evett, Ali Payne, Lexi Wayman, Jen Richins.
Bottom Row: Kaylynn Street, Katie Bowdidge, Shelbi Tyteca, Kalli Randall.
This fantastic group of girls will be playing on their home field for the last time today against Weber. We want to wish them luck with their softball futures and college careers. We (Viewmont Coaches) want to thank them for the fun times and the frustrations. We have all grown and we have learned to appreciate each other through the good and the bad. We believe the best is yet to come and look forward to more memories with all of you. It will be hard to say goodbye.
This group of girls has been bonded by many years of softball together. Several of these girls began playing softball with "Blue Crush" in the 14 and under classification. They have had several years to figure out how to work together and to realize that they are truely a team. We often hear the comment "they don't like each other do they". They are a fun group of girls who truely love each others company on and off the field.
Come on out today and support this awesome group of kids. Best of luck to the team. A win today may possibly put the Vikings in Second place and placing us in a better position for playoffs.
Good luck Vikes!

A couple of tough losses.
What a week!
This schedule this season has been interesting. Most of our home games were played the first part of the season and all of the rainouts left us with two tough games this week. On Wednesday, the Vikes traveled to Freemont and on Thursday we traveled to Syracuse.
Both teams are always tough. Freemont came out on top with a score of 5 - 2. Syracuse "lucked out" after 8 innings and scored the winnng run to beat us 3 - 2.
This ties us with Freemont for second place in region 1 and may have an affect on state playoffs, placing us either 2nd or 3rd. We still have two games next week. We are at Northridge on Tuesday and home against Weber on Thursday.
Come to our last home game and help us honor our seniors as they play on our home field for the last time.

Shelbi sets a new record.
You guessed it....Shelbi set a new state record for most strike outs in an extra inning game. She struck out 22 batters against Syracuse on Monday. Congratulations Shelbi.
Today the Lady Vikes are playing a make-up game against Weber. It will be a fun game to watch so come on out to the game. Our defense has been great and fun to watch. You will most likely see some diving catches from our short-stop, Jen Richins as well as the best pitching in the state.
We also had some great wins this week.
We beat Layton 16 - 1 in the bottom of the 4th inning and got Davis on Thursday 8 - 3
Good luck today Vikes.

Is it a record?
Syracuse 1....Viewmont 0
What a game! Unfortunately, Suracuse came out on top of this one. Shelbi Tyteca had 23 strikeouts in 11 innings. Amazing! We had some great defensive plays which kept the crowd engaged the entire game. Jen Richins had a great diving catch at shortstop, something she has done quite often and something we are beginning to expect from her.
Shelbi Tyteca was the player of the game.
Check back for updates: We may have some marks in the record books on this one.

A couple of great wins
The lady Vikes pulled off a great win against Freemont on Tuesday. The girls walked away with a 3-0 win, the first time in several years. Freemont has been the reigning region champions for awhile. We would love to take the trophy from them. Our players of the game were: Kalli Randall and Jen Richins. Kalli was able to hit a double to the outfield, scoring 2 runs and also giving our team the spark for a solid win. Kalli also scored run number three in the game. Jen had some amazing defensive plays during the game against Freemont.
On Thursday, March 19, the lady Vikes pulled off another win against Layton. Jen Richins was again making some amazing plays at short stop. She had an amazing defensive play, stopping Layton from scoring and aweing the crowd.
Good job Vikes. Keep up the good work.
Non-region, home game against Copper Hills today.

Tournament update
We all hate to leave the nice weather in St George. We have some important things we need to work on when we return to Salt Lake. One of those is facing Freemont on Tuesday. We will be playing on our home field at 3:30 and hope to see a big crowd.
March Warm-up is always a good tournament for us. It gives the players a chance to get to know one another and to get in some "team bonding" . It gives the coaches a chance to look at different line-ups, and to see how well we come together as a team.
Highlights of the tournament:
Shelby Tyteca had 16 strikeouts against Palo Verde. She was able to strike out each player on their team at least one time. Meagan Peay hit a home run against Riverton scoring 2 runs. Cina Cummings did a great job as lead off batter with an on-base average of .429. She was also able to hit .368 for the tournament. Great job gals! Our team bench was amazing. They helped Viewmont walk away with a 3-2 record for the tournament.
Oh, the bus driver rocked! He was very accommodating and cool.
Until next time.........

Unfortunately the score of yesterdays game did not come out in our favor. They managed to hit a line drive to the outfield in the bottom of the 7th inning scoring 2 runs and winning the game. We had some good things happen and feel good about our first day on the field. Cina Cummings went 2 for 4 at the plate and Shelby Tyteca did a great job on the mound.
Check back for updates at the tournament this weekend. More info. to come.
